Food in Seoul

Michelle Wu

The food in Seoul is so good and relatively cheap as well. There are these two Michelin star restaurants that are really popular-- Myeondong Kyoja and Orenoramen. I've had the ramen twice already and it was so good both times. You order through a kiosk before you enter the restaurant. They only have two options: the regular ramen and the spicy version. Great for indecisive people! I have not had Myeondong Kyoja yet but it is on my list for sure. The last time I tried to go the line was so long people were waiting on the stairs that led up to the restaurant. There are many food markets in Seoul, I visited Gwangjang Market and even met a TikTok influencer there! It is a pretty crowded market but it's also huge. I will definitely visit again. The cafe culture in Korea is incredible so I will make a separate post for that. Korea University has at least five cafeterias and I went to one during orientation. I had this coleslaw salad thing that I loved. There are many food stalls, especially in tourist-heavy areas. I tried steamed Ginkgo seeds for the first time and I love it so much. The texture is so good. I hope I can find them back in the States.

The famous salt bread!! There are a lot of locations, I think the first one I visited was in Seongsu. The way it works is that you order at a kiosk first, hold on to your receipt, then go wait in line for pick up where you will show the worker your order number.

This soup was soooo good! It was kind of like pho. There was so much I took it home and froze it. When I took it out to heat it up, I added ginkgo seeds and it was amazing.
