Hey guys!!
I’m three weeks into coming to Japan and my class is starting tomorrow. I’m super excited to start my classes and meet my classmates but before that I wanted to share the best eats I had in Tokyo so far!
One of my goals of studying abroad is to find hidden gems all around Japan! And for three weeks I have been going wandering around to find the best foods around Tokyo.
First thing you have to try after coming is to go to any rotating sushi restaurant. If you have ever been to one in the US, it can get pretty pricey if you go there hungry. However, in Japan the prices can be low as 150 yen (about 1$) per plate and great quality. Depending on the restaurant prices may vary but chain restaurants such as Kura sushi or Sushiro they can be pretty affordable with amazing prices. As you can see from the picture this was all the plates we ate as a table of 5. Definitely a must visit place if you want to try affordable and delicious sushi.

Second must try food is Ramen, which is a staple food of Japan. I’ve tried few ramen places and one of my favorite was the Yuzu ramen from Afuri. If you are around Shinjuku I recommend trying the place out. But if you want to try any ramen restaurant you can just walk around the city and find a local place!

Third must try is ochazuke. It is a traditional Japanese food made by pouring tea over bowl of cooked rice and toppings. I stumbled across a chazuke restaurant when I was roaming around Shinjuku EST and had one of the best meal especially on a chilly rainy day. The dish is very aesthetically pleasing and comforting making it perfect dish on a cold day. It is light and warm dish that can be great if you are cold or sick. Definitely one of the best must try dish in Japan.

Lastly on this post, I highly recommend trying tonkatsu. It is also one of the staple food of Japan and an amazing filling meal with great protein and miso soup on the side. It is best if you are really hungry and want to have a big meal. I had few tonkatsu here and there and none of them has disappointed me so far.

I will end this post here but there are so many other restaurants and dishes I tried and want to recommend in future blogs because you have to have sweet treats after every meal right?
