Food in Barcelona (don’t open if you’re hungry)

It’s no secret that Spain is bustling with culture. From gorgeous architecture to incredible festivals to a sense of wonder every where you turn, Spain is filled to the brim with new experiences. But nothing NOTHING compares to the food that is available to you in Barcelona. Barcelona offers endless types of cuisine and you can never eat everywhere. Since being here, I have explored local Spanish cuisine and had incredible Italian, Portuguese, Japanese, Mexican…oh I could go on forever. Safe to say that you will never be bored with the options that Spain offers to you.

Oh and did I mention, so cheap. Barcelona is one of the most affordable cities that I have visited so far. Coffee costs an average of 2-3 euros and most dinners that I go to range from 10-15 euros. Additionally, Spain is one of the largest wine producers in the world. This means that a glass at dinner costs an average of about 4 euros. Groceries mirror these prices as well and I’ve never spent more than 50 euros on groceries that last me for at least a week and a half.

When you’re choosing where to study abroad, food is definitely one of the factors that you should consider. Here are some questions that you should ask yourself while choosing a place!

What is your favorite type of food? Does the city you’re going to go to have a good scene for that cuisine?

What is the local cuisine of the place you’ll be studying? Are you a fan of that food? The local cuisine is the most authentic and incredible when you enjoy it

How important is money to you when studying abroad? What are the average prices of foods in your city? (pro tip: look on Apple maps and click on menus to see options and prices)

I hope these tips make you even more confident in your choice for where to study and excited about the prospects of your semester! Happy eating!!
