Learning How to Explore

Rachel Gulczinski

One of the most intimidating parts of studying abroad is being “transplanted” into a new city and being overwhelmed with the number of opportunities and things to do constantly. And it’s true. Especially in Barcelona, there are endless things to do and even I know that I won’t get the chance to do everything. One of the most important things that I did in the first weeks and months being here is simply wandering. Between classes or when I had lots of time, I would turn off my google maps and just walk. Going where the streets take me, I have been able to find the most unexpected places. These have included the best cafe that I have experienced in Barcelona, unique shops, and really cool museums. My biggest advice for someone coming to a new city is to try to explore- even if it’s by yourself. You can’t even imagine the things you might find :)
